By Avery Grewal A group of students from Design Tech High School is working with Oracle to create a more patient friendly hospital experience. If this sounds crazy to you, it is; Design Tech is not your average high school. Design Tech (commonly referred to as d.tech) is a public charter school where students have the opportunity to partake in two-week, deep-dive courses four times a year. These students have access to a multitude of classes taught by experts in their respective fields. These classes teach a range of skills from business and tech to cooking and golf. This week, Brandon, James, Jocelyn, Avery, and Tyler are designing a hospital room that incorporates lighting and climate to dramatically affect a patient's mood. This technology isn't new; lighting, air conditioning, and heating systems have been around for years, but the idea of combining them in a way that changes health care is revolutionary. If patients are able to control their surroundings, they feel empowered and happy, and if a nurse or doctor can perfect a patient's environment, those patients may heal faster. This project is just a prototype now, but someday you may see it in hospitals everywhere. Want to help support this project?
